Douglas Young, Joelle Pappas, Paul Klee

Working on the extraordinary score of Douglas Young’s quartet ‘Mr Klee visits the Botanical Gardens’, which we will premiere in January. With some help from a member of the family, John Hoskin’s (1921-1990) ‘Beetle’ . Wapping 6 12 16
Today, an exciting conversation begins. I took the train to Oxford to visit my much-admired friend and colleague Douglas Young and the Choreographer Joelle Pappas. Douglas has been an inspiring collaborator for many years, as composer, pianist, thinker, and expert on the composer Priaulx Rainier.
Our conversation today began with the wonderful Ballet which they made, based on the Paul Klee ‘Pedagogical Sketchbooks’. We have a plan to make a piece for dancers and musicians based on the puppets which Klee made for his son Felix. So an inspiring, free flowing discussion of line, colour, movement, sound, meaning…watch this space to see how the project develops.
