Niccolo Castiglioni-Undici Danze per la bella Verena (1996)
Peter Sheppard Skaervd-Violin (Amati 1628), Roderick Chadwick-Piano Live at Kettles Yard 27 4 14
Castiglioni’s ’11 dances’ are his last work, completed on 30th September 1996 just nine days before his death. Based on a simple, popuar them, they distill Castiglioni’s mature style. After the last dance, the manuscript instructs the violinist to wait, tune the E string down to E Flat, and then play the final chord, which serves as ‘envoi’ to the piece, and to Castiglioni’s work.
